FlightGear

Flight simulators have almost completely disappeared from the PC gaming market. Even Microsoft Flight Simulator has been "grounded" for quite a few months and the latest version didn't exactly catch on with gamers.
Fortunately, there are plenty of great freeware and Open Source flight simulator games available on the Internet. One of these is the feature-rich game FlightGear. There are more than 20,000 real airports, hundreds of different planes from all different eras and realistic backgrounds and scenery based on actual maps. Technically speaking, FlightGear measures up with well-designed 3D graphics, though it is not quite at the level of commercial releases. Nonetheless, it is highly playable for novices and more advanced players alike.
FlightGear is - as mentioned - absolutely free. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. On the official website, you can purchase a special edition of the game available on 3 DVDs for a reasonable cost.
To play the game, you'll need a computer with a 2 GhZ processor and at least 1 GB of RAM.
