Tremulous
Tremulous is a 3D shoot-em-up with elements of role-playing and strategy games. It started as a MOD for Quake 3 but it recently became available as a stand-alone game.
The game can only be played online and in teams. It's soldiers against aliens, and whoever destroys the other team first wins. Retail games have nothing on Tremulous, both in terms of the large number of weapons and screens and in terms of graphics, which are great down to the smallest detail (influences of Quake and Doom are apparent).
Tremulous is absolutely free. To make the most of it, at least an ADSL connection is advised. More information - as well as videos, images and a Linux version - are available on the official site.
