Winners of the MTV 2005 Video of the Year for Boulevard of Broken Dreams, punk rock trio Green Day have reached their highest career point yet with the album American Idiot.
After building up somewhat of a cult following in the early 90s, Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool were signed by major records label Reprise. And from here on came a string of huge hits. When I Come Around stayed at number one in the rock charts for seven weeks in 1995, Time of Your Life featured in the final Seinfeld episode as well as doing exceptionally well on the charts and Minority hit the top of the rock charts just 4 weeks after its release.
American Idiot has been the first Green Day album ever to debut at number one on the American Billboards Charts due undoubtedly to the theme of the album...lashing out at the American government. American Idiot was nominated for seven Grammy awards, winning Best Rock Album. In August of 2005, Green Day took home 7 Video Music Awards from MTV.
