Linux Ubuntu 9.10
Karmic Koala is the code name of the new version of Linux Ubuntu - version 9.10 to be exact. This alternative to Windows 7 is available for download starting October 29. With Windows 7 now on store shelves, the release date of Ubuntu is no coincidence as many think it can give Microsoft's new operating system a run for its money. Linux isn't just for techies anymore.
Some of the new features in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala include an incredibly fast system start-up. The aim is to be able to start up in 10 seconds. Even the applications load faster and the interface seems lighter. There's also better compatibility with Bluetooth for faster exchange of files between devices.
With the Ubuntu Software Center, it's easier to manage things, such as installing and removing programs. Some of the standout applications included are Telepathy, a messaging software similar to Windows Live Messenger, and the mail client Empathy.
Yet another safe, easy to use, free and open-source product from Linux.
