Windows Defender
Windows Defender is a great tool that helps protect your computer by combatting spyware, pop-ups, slow performance and security threats posed by unwanted software.
This Microsoft program is always at the ready to offer Real-Time Protection, its monitoring system that aims to keep you productive. Obviously you can perform scans manually as well if you'd like.
The interface is clear and clean and doesn't require any particular technical knowledge. Windows Defender is compatible with Windows XP SP 2 and comes included with the various versions of Windows Vista. To install it, you'll need to validate that you are indeed running a genuine Microsoft Windows product but this is par for the course if you've downloaded other Microsoft programs (such as Windows Live Messenger or Windows Media Player).
